Dusting and Regular Care
Furniture should be dusted or vacuumed periodically. Always dust with a polish-moistened cloth, dry dusting may scratch the surface. It is a good practice to follow the grain of wood while dusting- wiping across the grain could cause scratches if dust contains grit. In a home or office environment, residue films may form of the finish, which may need to be cleaned with a good furniture cleaner. Remember to select soft cloths made of cotton or flannel to avoid scratching the finish. It should be noted that new furniture or kitchen cabinets require a period of 30 days curing before the finish achieves its maximum performance properties. consideration should be given to the continued use of desk pads, heavy items, or damp materials being placed on the finish without proper protection. Dragging heavy objects across the surface can also damage the finish. Common Cleaning Agents and Solutions The most commonly used cleaning agents on the market today are water based. They are formulated to contain degreasing agents as well as cleaning additives that bring beauty to the wood. Products such as Murphy's soap, Johnson's Pledge household cleaner, pure lemon oil, or equivalent are used frequently. Washing the wood with soap and water is not a recommended practice. It will leave the finish lusterless and in most cases harm the finish if left on the surface too long.
